Worth your time
Sunrise walk on the beach path
Sanur faces east, so this is where Bali does sunrise. A paved path runs roughly five kilometres along the sand, past jukung fishing boats and early swimmers, flat, shaded in stretches, and lovely before 7:00.
💡 Leave the villa around 5:00 with Gede; sunrise is near 6:15 most of the year and worth the early alarm.Pasar Sindhu
Sanur's everyday market, fruit, flowers and offerings in the morning, then a night market of food stalls after dark where locals eat satay and nasi campur for a few dollars.
💡 Come hungry in the evening, the night-market grill stalls are the cheapest good dinner in Sanur.Cycling the beachfront
Sanur is the flattest, calmest place to ride a bicycle in southern Bali. Rent one along the path and pedal the full length from Sanur Beach to Mertasari, stopping wherever a warung looks promising.
💡 Bikes rent cheaply by the hour along Jalan Danau Tamblingan, no booking needed.Le Mayeur Museum
The seafront home of Belgian painter Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur, who settled here in the 1930s and painted his wife, the legong dancer Ni Pollok. The house itself, carved doors, shell-framed windows, is half the exhibit.
💡 It sits right on the beach path near the Sindhu stretch, so fold it into your morning walk.Day boats to Nusa Lembongan
Fast boats leave Sanur's beach for Nusa Lembongan in about 30-40 minutes, clear water, mangroves and a slower island pace. Doable as a day trip if you catch a morning departure.
💡 Book the boat a day ahead through Sarah and take the earliest crossing; afternoon seas get choppier.Eat & drink
Warung Mak Beng
Warung
One dish since 1941, fried fish with fish-head soup, and a queue of locals to prove it.
Massimo
Italian restaurant
A Sanur institution; skip dessert at the table and join the gelato queue out front instead.
Genius Cafe
Beachfront café
Coffee and healthy bowls right on Mertasari Beach, bring the laptop, the Wi-Fi is serious.

Why stay in Canggu and day-trip to Sanur?
Sanur is Canggu’s quiet opposite number. Our side of the island does surf, sunset and a younger crowd; Sanur does sunrise, calm reef-protected water and an unhurried, old-school pace that families and grandparents tend to love. Be honest with yourself about what you want from the day: there are no waves to speak of and the nightlife winds down early. What you get instead is the gentlest beach day in southern Bali, a flat path you can walk or cycle for five kilometres, swimmable water for small children, and the launching point for boats to Nusa Lembongan.
From the villa it is a 45-minute drive across the island, and the timing is everything, which is where Gede earns his keep. For sunrise he’ll collect you at 5:00 and have you on the beach path with coffee before the sky turns; for a Lembongan day he matches the drive to the morning boat so you never sprint down a jetty. The 7-seater means grandparents, kids and beach bags all travel in one air-conditioned trip, from $45 for Gede’s day. Tell Sarah on WhatsApp which version of Sanur you’re after, sunrise, cycling or the boat, and she’ll have it arranged within the hour.

You're already here Canggu
Komang was born in Berawa, and the villa sits on a subak lane between Berawa and Batu Bolong. This is Canggu the way the family who lives here uses it, which beach for which mood, where Chef Wayan actually shops, and when to go.

25 min by car Seminyak
Seminyak is Bali at its most polished, beach clubs, white-tablecloth dinners and serious shopping. It's 25 minutes from the villa with Gede at the wheel, which is exactly how we recommend doing it: dive into the glamour, then come home to the rice fields.

1 h 15 by car Ubud
Temples, terraces and the ridge walk, Ubud rewards a full, well-planned day. It's 1 h 15 from the villa with Gede driving, which means you can do the terraces before the tour buses and still be back for a sunset swim.
